About Me

I'm Matthew Hielscher, a software and web developer. I studied Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I've coded in several languages, including C/C++, Java, Perl, and Objective-C; but I'm currently a Python developer. Ruby and JavaScript are on my to-learn list for the near future.

I've worked on tax e-filing systems at FileYourTaxes.com, converting tax form specifications to code and designing my own systems. Recently I've been developing web applications with Django and Apache, and building around RESTful APIs like Twitter's.

I have a reputation for being able to explain difficult concepts in ways that people can understand. I can see the confusion and cut past it to relate a new concept to what someone already understands. I can communicate concisely and directly in writing and express my ideas verbally with clarity.

I'm looking for freelance programming work! I can work remotely, or within the Sacramento area. I am available up to 12 hours a week at this time. Find me on oDesk, or contact me directly.

If you have a part-time employment opportunity that you think I'd fit, I'd be thrilled to interview with you.
